The
Lone Ranger debuted in 1933 on WXYZ radio of Detroit,
MI, and listeners created their own images of the ranger
in their minds. Promotional photos were taken of Brace
Beemer (then the radio station manager) who owned a horse
farm and had a white stallion named "Silvers Pride." Artists
soon created many different images of the ranger for Big
Little Books, comics, novels, toys, premiums and promotional
materials. The 1937 movie serial had a new image with
the Lone Ranger's mask that had a black screen over the
lower part of the face. While his apparel changed often
in the early years, soon the blue shirt, red kerchief,
& white hat became the standard. Clayton Moore was
the first Lone Ranger on TV and is easily the most popular
& recognizable face of of the Lone Ranger today.
